Nelson graduated with his law degree from Ole Miss in 1990. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Ole Miss as well in 1986, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, and minors in Chemistry, Biology, English and German. He is admitted to practice law in Mississippi and Louisiana.
He began his practice in Columbus, Mississippi, practicing as a shareholder in the Gholson, Hicks & Nichols PA law firm. Subsequently he was a partner in the Hicks & Smith PLLC firm. He has practiced in both the Northern and Southern federal court districts in Mississippi as well as the Western District of Louisiana. He is also admitted to practice before the federal U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. After having started practicing in Louisiana in Minden, LA, he now practices with the Ryan Gatti law firm in Bossier City, La.
Nelson’s primary areas of practice include family law, personal injury, as well as serving as an Assistant District Attorney in the 2nd JDC of Louisiana. Nelson always focuses on helping the “regular folks.” He understands that his neighbor, his fellow church goers, the cashier at the grocery store, the oilfield worker, the construction worker, the husband, the wife, the children – are just good people who need help in difficult circumstances.
Nelson is married and has four children, and currently has a wonderful granddaughter that he and his wife Ginger are raising. They are lifelong Southern Baptists. Outside of the law, Nelson is an avid deer hunter, elk hunter, sports enthusiast, and enjoys reading as well.
